You had been in town walking the boardwalk when you had heard the commotion. It was far away for sure but it wasn’t what caught your attention. From out of nowhere while you were going around and meeting the people of Beach City trying to find the mysterious recipient- out of nowhere came a large object that zipped straight passed you and into the sand. You may not have cared for it all to much(besides your own fright) had it not moved and lifted itself up. Silence settled as you watched the large form stand and dust itself off before you realized who it was. It was the lady from earlier that Steven left with. She seemed just fine but in the little bit of worry you had for her you walked over carefully.

“U-um.....are you alright?” You asked hesitantly, stopping a little ways from her as she stood to her full height. It was a little intimidating the way her bulk and stoic emotion went together. That and she stood nearly seven feet tall.

She remained silent. In fact for the amount of time you awkwardly stood there waiting you thought it may just be best to leave. But to your surprise she spoke suddenly. "Yes" was all she said but it made you feel just a little less strange.

“How did you end up over here anyway? I mean...did ya get hit?” You asked curiously looking over your shoulder from where she came from. She merely repeated what she said before. You resisted a sigh that had built in your lungs and nodded. “Well then, I’m glad to know you’re okay...but I’ll be on my way now.”

So you began away, confused why the woman didn’t really want to move. You hadn’t a clue as to who she was besides the fact that she was the little boy’s friend that you had met by a chance encounter. Oh well, best sift through the people to find the recipient. It was time to put the small hinderance that was Steven’s friend behind you. But while you could say she was behind you, you hadn’t quite expected her to attack you from behind.

One moment you were stepping back up onto the boardwalk and then the next, you were thrown forward by a random weight, a strange feeling going around your waist as you were suddenly lifted off the ground. In front of you now was the spot your were previously standing in- a strange and terrifying creature there in your place. You stared at it a moment, not entirely comprehending what just happened until you noticed the form next to you move. It was the stoic woman again. She had you around the waist, standing now a good ways away from the creature.  She set you down before running back to that creature, gauntlets upon her hands as she began to pulverize it. More came slithering up with four lipped mouths.

The other two ladies you had seen earlier came running along as well from down the beach, Steven a good ways off. You were once again staring in dismay, unsure what to make of the situation. At some point you must have sat down because you were doing just that.

Steven you saw, was panting heavily, bending over as the women fought those creatures on the sand. Then he spotted you and came running over.

“_____! Are you alright?” He asked, stopping by you. You looked up at him and nodded slowly.

“Y-....yeah, I’m fine....first time I think I almost was attacked by a monster....so there’s that.” You stated blankly. “So uh....do we help them or....?”

Steven shook his head. “Nope! They usually finish this stuff quickly. But Garnet got hit pretty hard...and they seem pretty attached to her for some reason.” He stated, watching the rest of the small battle as the women tore at the strange worm like creatures.

“Garnet?” You asked, wondering if that was in fact a name of one of the people.

“Yeah! I forgot I didn’t get to introduce you. The one with the big hair is named Garnet. The one with the whip is named Amethyst and the one who just got slimed is Pearl.” He said, chuckling at the disgusted look on “Pearl’s” face.

“Garnet! They just keep coming!” She yelled, flicking her arms with a deep frown. Amethyst had taken the moment to start laughing, pointing at Pearl. It seemed she was trying to find a snarky comment to throw but couldn’t and resort to laughing instead.

Garnet looked to the lot of serpentine creatures, looking around with a frown of her own. “I don’t see the mother....” She said quietly, Pearl taking on a look of concern. “But there is a leader of the troop.”

“Where is it? And how to we find it in this mess?!” Pearl asked, rubbing her face clean with both hands and flicking them free of slime again.

“We beat all of ‘em up until we find it!” Said Amethyst, running into the horde and swinging her whip wildly. Garnet on the other hand, though still for many moments, suddenly took a mighty leap into the horde of slithering monsters, seeming to be aiming for a spot.

When she came down upon the sand, the many worm like creatures squealed all at once and poofed into nonexistence. In her hand when the plume of sand cleared was a squirming worm just like the rest. The only difference was the tail that sported a stinger.

“Found it...” Garnet said, the gauntlet tightening around the leader and allowing it to also screech and disappear. Pearl let out a sigh, her shoulders sagging as her weapon disappeared.

“But what about the mother?” She asked, looking back the way they had come from. “I was sure it would have followed. It left the moment it hit you.” She said to Garnet.

You tuned out a moment. Who were these people? Then you felt a tug upon your shirt, looking over to Steven who was beaming up at you. “What?” you asked, a little perplexed at the stare.

“Wanna meet them?” He said, his voice faltering in what you could assume was excitement.

“Uh....Maybe not....I still have to find the-”

“Oh come on! Plus! What if that package is meant for them? It would solve a lot of your problems right?” He stated, standing up. You too followed suit. He did have a point. If you planned on asking every person if the item was theirs, then you couldn’t exclude anyone....even if they did seem a little intimidating. Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst didn’t seem shady either, which you had issues with in the past. So you shrugged, looking to Steven again.

“I suppose you’re right. May as wel-” But you had no time to finish what you were saying as you were pulled forward by him to meet the trio. They were still talking amongst themselves, bickering and inquiring, arguing even. But when Steven spoke up, they all stopped to look at him.

“Guys! I want you to meet _____! We’re trying to find the person they’re supposed to deliver the thing on their back too.” He stated, looking up at them all(except for Amethyst who seemed just a little taller than his own height) expectantly.

“Steven, if you want us to help- we can’t. We have to find the mother before it causes more trouble.” Pearl stated, a hand waving around as she spoke. She seemed like the type to speak with her hands.

“No, no, no. I mean we came to see if maybe it’s yours.” He said to her, Garnet tilting her head just slightly in confusion.

“Us? Getting mail? That’s a first.” Said the shorter of the three, chuckling as she leant on one leg and put a fist still holding her whip on her hip.

“Uh...no you see, I’m returning it.” You said quietly, still a little nervous under their gaze.

Pearl dropped her hands, eyebrows raised in surprise. “Returning it...?”

“Yes...um, my mother received it some many years ago and promised it’s return by this year....but I can’t find who it goes to.” You were wringing your hands, unsure why you were so off put by these people’s presence. In fact, now that you thought about it, these people couldn’t be the person your mother told you of. The woman was supposed to be beautiful and joy bearing but these people only made you scared. “U-um....I suppose I was mistaken...I’ll just look elsewhere...” You said, turning around awkward and stiff.

“Can we look at it...” Came a stoic voice, stopping you. You weren’t sure if it was a good idea for them to do that. The last time you heard that request, those people almost didn’t give it back. In fact they still want it and are pursuing you as we speak. But a part of you felt like showing them would be appropriate. So after a few silent, hesitant moments, you turned back around and nodded. Maybe you could actually see it this time too.

Pearl was the first to step forward eagerly. You slipped the item off your back, pulling the strap over your head and holding the object to her. You hadn’t quite expected her to nearly lose hold of it though. She grit her teeth, holding it carefully, “Why is it so heavy?!” She grumbled, handing it to Garnet who had an outstretched hand. You had actually forgot about it’s true weight. Maybe the five years of carrying it around had payed off in some way. So there was a plus.

Garnet ignored Pearl and proceeded to open the item, unwrapping it carefully. You stood on your tiptoes from where you were to see it, the position she held it in prevented you from seeing it other wise. The other two gathered around her in aw, and you too were in the same state. What you thought was once an instrument was actually a dull grey Hammer.

“I’ve been....carrying around a giant hammer this whole time...” You said softly, blinking in surprise. Amethyst looked at you, the one eye you could see showing amused confusion.

“You mean you’ve never opened it before?” She asked, a cocky laugh coming from her.

“I haven’t, but some others have. I had this sort of...weird feeling that it would be wrong of me to see it before the recipient.”

Pearl looked like she was about to say something, a bright look on her face before Garnet spoke up. “It’s not ours.” Was all she said, wrapping up the large and heavy headed hammer again. Pearl seemed to take on a look of disappointment at being interrupted but let it be anyway.

“I-...its not?” You said, matching Pearl’s look. You should have expected it but it didn’t mean you were any less put out by the thought of having to travel more.

“No. It’s not.” Garnet stated, handing it back to you. You slung it once again on your back though this time with a sigh. Steven piped up from below you.

“Aw, what??? I thought for sure....Let’s go talk to everyone else!” He shouted, not giving you enough time to apologize to the rest of the Gems. Steven had a thing for pulling didn’t he. You gave a disheartened sigh and followed along, your steps quickening to match his enthusiastic speed.
